Backup Solution for Microsoft Hyper-V
Many small and medium businesses are using Microsoft Hyper-V to virtualize their data center. With the latest release of Windows 2016, Microsoft has improved the hypervisor capabilities and introduced a lot of new features. Hence, it is now on par with the other sophisticated hypervisors and it certainly helps to increase the user base for Hyper-V. The IT administrators using Hyper-V environment for their hypervisor purpose are in need of a comprehensive backup solution to avoid the OS/Disk corruption and other disasters. It should be noted that creating a backup policy for the Hyper-V VMs is not a simple process. Although, Hyper-V itself has a snapshot functionality, it is not an option for backup. Also, the backup software available for Hyper-V backup are not performing well due to the lack of comprehensive backup APIs from Microsoft.
Vembu has developed it’s own proprietary driver to backup the Hyper-V VMs in an efficient manner especially with up to 5X improvement in performance over other backup softwares.
- Agentless Hyper-V Backup
- Supports Windows Server 2016
- Supports Cluster Shared Volumes and SMB Share
- Application-aware image processing and Transaction log truncations

Microsoft Hyper-V Backup
Microsoft Hyper-V is becoming a tough competition to VMware vSphere ever since the Microsoft unveiled the free hypervisor alongside Windows OS. So, more IT Admins are attracted towards it by the new and improved functionality of Hyper-V. Vembu VMBackup for Microsoft Hyper-V provides faster and efficient backups with enterprise-level features for SMBs. With RPO and RTO less than 15 minutes, VMBackup provides faster VM recovery options which ensure high availability and business continuity.
Agentless VMware Backup – Backup all virtual machines running on Hyper-V server without installing any agent inside each VM and protect entire VM including operating system, application and data of virtual machine running on a Hyper-V environment in a single pass to ensure the business continuity
Incremental Backup – After successful full backup, only the modified data will be backed up to the backup server. It will reduce the data transfer over LAN/WAN and improve the incremental backup performance
Application-aware Backup – During each backup schedule, VMBackup verifies the Microsoft Applications writer consistency to ensure the consistency of the Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint and Active Directory. Also Vembu VMBackup reduces the overflow of storage space by automatically truncating the Exchange transaction logs after performing a successful VM backup
Quick VM Recovery – Recover the backed up VMs instantly to any hypervisors like Hyper-V, VMware and KVM without restoring the entire VM data
Full VM Recovery – Recover the backed up VMs permanently to the same or different Hyper-V Server
Changed Block Tracking – Efficient block level incremental backup processed using Vembu proprietary CBT (Change Block Tracking) Driver for the VMs running on Hyper-V environments
Advanced Retention Policies -Basic and Advanced (GFS) retentions policies helps to merge the multiple recovery points and reduces the time taken to restore the backed up VMs
Offsite or Remote Backup – Replicate redundant copy of backup data to your own offsite data center or to Vembu Cloud for data redundancy and disaster recovery purpose
Instant File Recovery – Recover individual files and folders instantly from backed up VMs without restoring the entire VM data
Cross Hypervisor Migration (V2V) – VMBackup helps to migrate VMs running on Hyper-V to VMware or KVM and vice versa by downloading the virtual disk files like VHD, VHDX, VMDK, VMDK-Flat, RAW from the recovery console
Vembu Universal Recovery -Instantly recover individual application items from Microsoft Applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint and Active Directory
